Capital Cuisine – A bite sized taste of Southbank Centre Food Market

Whilst on a trip to London with Wifey, we had a visit to Southbank for a wander and a trip on the Eye. Nestled in the space behind the Royal Festival Hall was a street food market. As a foodie, it would have been sacrilege not to descend down and have a try…

Busy is a word I probably use a little too much but for this situation, it was apt. It was thrumming with activity and a good range of stalls from Hot Dogs:

To oysters and bloody marys:

After a brief wander round,Wifey and I decided on a bit of ‘East meats West’ in the shape of Korrito – a Korean burrito stand:

Wifey plumped for mandoo dumplings (a recurring theme?).

I went for a Pork Belly Burrito with Kimchi Rice.

After a short wait, we went and found seats (under the world reddest canopy it seems) and tucked in.

The burrito was sweet and spicy with perfectly cooked pork punctuated with the pickle hit of kimchi. The marrying of Korean and Mexican worked well, and a slow heat build up had me reaching for a drink by the end.

Wifey’s Mandoo dumplings were piping hot. Crunchy batter, well filled and accompanied by a sesame mayonnaise. Her verdict was she almost went back for another portion. If we hadn’t had other things to do, I think she could have sat there all day eating box after box!

I also managed to find my spirit animal on a plate in a nearby store too!
